Artist From Assam out to set Their name in Guinness Book of World
Martial art teacher Basanta Das and his student Lakhi Munda are on a mission. The duo want to promote the traditional musical instruments of Assam and have a burning ambition to see their names in the Guinness Book of World Records. Presently, 22-year old Das and 19-year old Munda from Sootea near Biswanath Chariali are constantly practicing on motorcycle and are endeavouring to ride it at a stretch for 1,000 km and, hold your breath, without holding the handle.
While riding the bike, Das will be playing 22 traditional musical instruments of Assam. He said, “The instruments will be passed on to me by my friends who will be following me in a vehicle. I and Munda will be riding the bike in turns. Once we get the green signal from the Guinness officials stationed in Delhi, we will hit the road to achieve the said feat. We are hoping to get rolling by December or January 2017. We will follow the Guwahati-Dhemaji route and then come back to Sootea covering 1,000 km in the process.”
Das informed that he and his assistant Munda are practicing by the sweat of their brows and have already covered 500 km during their practice sessions. He also stated that they would cover 1,000 km as part of practice and then perform before the Guinness people.
“I have already contacted the Guinness officials in India and they have given me the go-ahead to perform my bike stunt. I am hoping to receive a call from them shortly.”
Das already has found a place in the Limca Book of Records for swimming the whole stretch of Brahmaputra playing Assamese traditional musical instruments. He has also made it to the India Book of Records for riding a bicycle with 22 people on it and covering a distance of 22 km without a break
