IPhone 6 blast while carrying in back pocket
IPhone 6 blast while carrying in back pocket, it is not safe, a person in New South Wales obtained extreme burns when his Apple iPhone 6 exploded in his back pocket while he was mountain biking, media reported on Tuesday.
Gareth Clear, 36, from Bondi in Australia was riding around Manly Dam in New South Wales on Sunday when he fell off his bike, landing on his iPhone 6.
“Seconds later, he seen smoke and a searing warmth, before listening to an explosion as the phone he’d had for just six months ignited, melting through his shorts and two layers of pores and skin on his upper right thigh,
The burn was so extreme that he needed to undergo pores and skin graft surgical procedure.
“It was a one in a single million chance I hit a part of the cellphone which pierced the lithium battery and it exploded,” Clear was quoted as saying.
“I’m 36, I’ve had a cell phone for 18 years of my life and for that thing to explode or quick circuit and trigger it to temporarily ignite. I might see the metallic bending and all of the lithium leaking out of the bottom end,” he added.
After the explosion, the bottom of the telephone appears like “something from a chemical explosion and the top stays completely intact”, he stated.
Da-Wei Wang from the University of New South Wales was quoted as saying that it was not unusual for lithium ion batteries in mobile phones to overheat, ignite and explode.
According to him, explosion after an impact was most likely caused by a combination of overheating and a defective design of the cellphone’s construction.
In the meantime, Clear stated Apple told him they would examine the incident.
An Apple spokesperson, nonetheless, declined to comment.
