Most of us are familiar with the word ban. “A ban is a formal or informal prohibition of something” says the Wikipedia. Bans are mostly imposed  to control some difficult issue. But banning things has both the positive as well as negative effects. It is surprising to see that some countries have banned unusual things. Here is a list of certain things that have been banned.

1.By any chance if you plan to visit North Korea then do not think of carrying your favourite pair of blue jeans. In North Korea wearing blue jeans is banned. This is because the colour ‘blue’ is associated with the United States with whom the country has hostile relations. (Holy shit)

2.Islands are a good place to holiday. But in the island of Capri in Italy wearing slippers and sandals making loud noise is prohibited. One can even get arrested for it or pay penalty.

3. If you are a chewing gum lover then I will suggest that you should never go to Singapore. The country has imposed a ban on the import and sale of chewing gum. There is a $500 fine for spitting out gum on the streets. The exception is made for dental or nicotine gum. Gum can be bought from a doctor but it must be prescribed.

4. Are you a male? Do you have a ponytail? I suggest you to avoid travelling to Iran. The country has imposed a ban on male western hairstyles like ponytails and spikes. This is because they think that it implies devil worship.

5. In a country like Saudi Arabia where lots of tourist flock into,it is shocking to know that the country has banned movie theatres. This is because they believe that this measure will help them to preserve its rich culture.

6. The Malaysian government has banned yellow colored clothing. This is because a huge mass of protests against the government wore them.

7. In Sao Paolo, Brazil , big advertisement boards in the streets has been banned. This is because they catch attention of the drivers, distract them which later leads to accidents.

8. Bhutan might be a small country. But it is the only country in Asia where cultivation, harvesting, production and the sale of harmful tobacco products are banned.

9. Having a burger or French fries without ketchup can be frustrating for some people as death. But in order to preserve their own cuisine, France has banned ketchup in school canteens.

10. Can you imagine that some countries had prohibited death? In Spain the mayor of one town has prohibited death. Such cases also occured in France and Brazil. This is mainly due to the government’s failure to approve the expansion of municipal cemeteries. There is also false rumors that death in the British Parliament is prohibited. This is because the Parliament is a sacred place and death of a person here must be preceded with state tribute. So therefore death has been banned.
