All my way to Bollywood from Nagaland
Zhokhoi Chuzho from Nagaland will be seen in the soon-to-be-released action-packed film Force 2 starring Sonakshi Sinha and hunk John Abraham.
Thirty-two-year-old Zhokhoi from Chakhesang community of Dimapur in Nagaland has featured in Bollywood flicks like Te Amo (yet to be released) and Detective Byomkesh Bakshi.
Says Zhokhoi, “I was busy shooting in Budapest (Hungary) for Force 2 with John and Sonakshi. I started my acting career with Nagamese movies like Dukhiya Manu, Revenge and Kushi Din. After that, I slowly made inroads into Bollywood.”
He also has shown his prowess in martial arts holding black belt 2nd dan and is a national gold medallist. “I hugely drew inspiration from watching movies and acted in plays while I was in school in Dimapur. I pulled out all stops to make an entry into Bollywood,” states the actor.
He is currently the creative director of Sky Entertainment, an event management company based in Dimapur, and is also the coordinator of Dreamz Unlimited, a Theatre and Film Society of Nagaland.
“I have loved watching movies with a passion since my childhood. I promised to myself that one day I would become an actor when I was only in Grade VII. I started my career by doing a role in a Nagamese movie called Revenge as a lead actor in the year 2003. I attended 45 days of intensive theatre workshop conducted by the National School of Drama (NSD) in truck with the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) held in Dimapur in 2008,” he informs.
The actor informs that he got a chance in Bollywood after several rounds of auditions. Till now, he has worked in six to seven movies (Bollywood and Nagamese combine) and the Nagamese movie Revenge has a “special place in my heart”. He feels “thrilled” on getting a chance to work with big names in Bollywood.
“As far as my Hindi diction is concerned, I need to improve a lot but I have faced no discrimination in Bollywood for coming from the Northeast,” says Zhokhoi. Apart from showing his histrionics before the camera, he loves “travelling and fishing”.
How did it feel to work with John and Sonakshi? “Working with them was an awesome experience. They both are down-to-earth actors. I play the role of the second villain in the movie as the Chinese man. When I spoke in Hindi, both John and Sonakshi was taken by surprise. John thought I was from Thailand and Sonakshi thought I was from China and we had a good laugh over that,” the actor chuckles.
The actor has earned his black belt 1st and 2nd degree from Thai Kick-Boxing and Wushu Martial Arts. He also won the national gold medal at the 10th National Thai-Kick Boxing Championships held in Dimapur in 2003. My all time favourite martial artist has always been Bruce Lee. He is and will always be my inspiration in the field,” he shares.
Zhokhoi dreams of working with Akshay Kumar in the future. “Presently, I am focusing on few local projects but I am being approached by big production houses of Bollywood. My company Sky Entertainment will be organising the Hornbill Festival in Nagaland this December,” says the actor whose hands are full at the moment.
He sums up by saying, “I would like my fellow northeasterners to work hard, be positive and confident about what he or she does. Always dream big! Nothing is impossible if you are willing to work hard,” says Zhokhoi.
