Asia’s Largest Bronze Statue To Be Erected By The Name Of The Ahom Commander “Lachit Barphukan”
Lachit Barphukan the person for whom The Mighty Mughals were forced to retreat from Guwahati in Battle of Saraighat. Also ell Known as The Maternal Uncle Slayer for sake of his partriotism.
He was leadership in the 1671 Battle of Saraighat that forced the Mughal to Leave Kamrup who drawn-out attempt to take Kamrup.The Mughal Army under The Mughal General Ram Singh which consisted of 30,000 infantry, 15,000 archers, 18,000 Turkish cavalry, 5,000 gunners and over 1000 cannons besides a large flotilla of boats.
Lachit Barphukan, was the son of Momai Tamuli Borbarua, the first Borbarua under Prataap Singha. He was given positions of responsibility of the Soladhara Barua of the Ahom Swargadeo, a position equivalent to a Private Secretaryship, King Chakradhwaj Singha selected Lachit Barphukan lead the army in the campaign against the Mughals which held in Guwahati.
Lachit Barphukan died about a year after the victory at Saraighat due to natural causes.Though he was sick at the time of the battle he didn’t care of his health and keep directing his army with all his effort. His remains lies in rest at the Lachit Maidaam built in 1672 by Swargadeo Udayaditya Singha at Hoolungapara 16 km from Jorhat.
Newly a statue is going to be situated at the heart of Brahmaputra, which is to be erected by the end of may 2015.
The Statue will be 35 feet and will weigh 18 tonnes.
This is Going to be the largest Bronze statue ever.
